Following our very successful 2013 session "Monastic Life in Early Medieval Ireland, we are calling for papers on "The Life of the Early Irish Monk" for ICMS 2014. Although most of the early Irish monasteries have completely vanished, with only the stone ruins of a select few monastic establishments surviving, there is much that can be done with surviving manuscript materials and archaeology to find out more about early Irish monastic life. These papers will use early historical, political, literary and hagiographical material, as well as the latest archaeological research, to work towards reconstructing the life of the early medieval Irish monk.
